I had just started my dream career as a surgical PA in trauma orthopedics.

And it wasn’t nearly as dreamy as I thought. I was only 23 years old and feeling a lot of pressure, stress, and anxiety already.

So began the emotional eating and rewarding myself with food.

I did anything I could just to “get through” the day. Including eating the peanut M&M’s in the clinical area, and promising myself Cheez-its and wine when I got home.

The next thing I knew, I was gaining weight and feeling way worse.

And then the dinner invitation that intrigued me…

(Okay, so this isn’t the scandalous dinner invitation I bet you were hoping for.)

My best friend, Kacie, opened my eyes to self-care with nourishing foods when she started inviting me over for dinner.

She would tell me about how each ingredient had this health benefit or that. Her excitement got me really excited.

I had this odd visual of a becoming a superwoman version of me, just from changing WHY, how much, and certainly WHAT I was eating.

All of a sudden, I had a massive desire to start taking care of my body like I did my patients.

So, I broke all of my bad eating habits on my own.

And I realized that the source of ALL of it, was my thoughts.

I ended up treating my own anxiety, stress, and self-loathing, lost weight and kept it off, and have not gone back to those eating habits.

The effect of that on my life? Profound. I’m now the Kate I didn’t even realize I could be.
