How to Make Time for Healthier Eating Habits

You WANT to have healthier eating habits, but you feel like your lack of time prevents it. Your work, family, and social schedule always seem to get in the way even when you have the best intentions.

I’m going to help you turn that feeling of a lack of time, into a feeling of ease. Ease in carving out a little time, consistently, to make healthier eating choices.

You’ll see how you don’t need to have an abundance of free time for healthier eating habits. I’m sharing some tools with you, so you can see exactly how to make time for healthier eating habits in a really simple way.

Do a Time Swap

Alright, let’s be honest for a bit. What are you doing during your day that isn’t that important, but is still making you think you have a lack of time? For example, just how much time are you spending on your phone? (Guaranteed it’s more than you think.)

Is there something you’re spending time doing during your day that is much less important to you than your health goals?

If so, let’s do a little time swap. Swap 20 minutes of doing that thing (whatever it is for you) for 20 minutes of some healthier meal prep.

You’ll feel so much better about where that 20 minutes is going. It doesn’t have to be 20 minutes either….pick something that you feel will be enough time for you to be a little better today than you were yesterday regarding eating habits.

Try to swap something every day if you can, but if you really think you can’t right now, then commit to a few times a week. You want something you can follow through on and be consistent with.

That way, it actually turns into a habit.

Schedule it in

Just as you would schedule in an appointment, meeting, or date, schedule in the time needed for healthier eating habits the same way. This is my favorite way to make time for healthier eating habits.

For example, if you want to start bringing a healthy lunch to work instead of buying takeout, then pick the time that works best for you every day to do this and schedule it into your calendar.

Put an alert on it too, so you aren’t just relying on memory. Especially as a busy career woman with lots on her brain. This is a really consistent way to make time for healthier eating habits.

Write out the Reasons Why

We make time for things we need to do and also for things we want to do, right?

So, if you’re someone who always makes time for something you NEED to do, then write down why you NEED to develop healthier eating habits. Write out as many reasons why as you can think of. This serves as great motivation to make time for healthier eating habits.

If you’re someone who always makes time for something you WANT to do, then write down why you WANT to develop healthier eating habits.

If you’re someone who just doesn’t make time for anything, well, start. Because if you don’t make time for yourself, no one else will and you’ll regret it later. (Sorry to be harsh, but it’s for your own good, if you’re that person.)

Re-frame How You Look at Your Time

I saved the best for last. I’ve truly mastered this one, so am excited to share this one with you.

It’s life-changing, even more so than just with making time for healthier eating habits.

Re-frame how you look at your time. Everyone has 24 hours in a day. The person who is unemployed, the person who is a busy surgeon, your neighbor’s dog even.

Where everyone differs is what they allot that time to.

So, think of it like an apple or pecan pie. The whole pie is the 24 hours. You get to choose how your pie is cut. It’s not likely that you have absolutely no choice in how you cut your pie, even if you think you don’t. You’re not forced to use every minute of your day for what you’re currently using it for.

So, be honest with yourself. Where can you cut your pie a little differently? Can you save a little sliver for yourself to make time for healthier eating habits. Think of those goals you’re gong to write down after you read this blog post.
