How to Feel Proud of Your Eating Habits (Even If You’re Struggling Right Now)

Do you wish you could feel proud of your eating habits, but it just feels too far away from where you are?

Maybe you’re stuck in emotional eating.
Maybe you snack mindlessly every night after work.
Maybe you’re on a weight loss journey, but keep sabotaging yourself and restarting every Monday.

And now, instead of feeling proud, you feel guilt. Shame. Frustration.
You might even wonder if it’s possible to ever feel proud of how you eat.

The answer is yes.
Even if it doesn’t feel true right now. (Yes, you can feel proud of your eating habits, even while you’re still working on them.)
And in this post, I’ll show you exactly how to start.

Plus, be sure to read to the end, for something you’re going to absolutely want, but only lasts 30 days. Or just skip to the end to find out now (wink, wink).

Why Pride Is the Missing Ingredient in Lasting Habit Change

We tend to think that we have to earn pride.
That we can only feel proud after we’ve been “good,” hit a weight loss milestone, or eliminated all the habits we hate.

But here’s what I’ve learned…. and what I see in my clients week after week:

Pride is not the reward. It’s the fuel.

Feeling proud of your eating habits, even small wins, actually helps you stick with them.
It creates momentum. Motivation. Emotional energy.

In contrast, guilt, shame, and disappointment (aka the emotions most people live in around food) are low-quality fuel.
They might push you for a few days, but they don’t last.
It’s about your brain trying to regulate your experience.

Emotions Drive Your Actions — Not Just Willpower

Let’s break it down.

Think of emotions as fuel in your car.

  • High-quality fuel (like pride, calm, self-trust) → better performance
  • Low-quality fuel (like guilt, shame, “what’s wrong with me?”) → stalled-out progress

Even if you know what to do, if your emotional fuel is coming from a place of shame or urgency, it’s going to be harder to follow through.
And if you’re not sure what to do and your emotions are working against you? You’re stuck.

So if you’ve been wondering why you keep falling into the same eating habits… this is a big reason why.

So What Creates Emotion? One Word: Thoughts

Your emotions don’t come out of nowhere. They’re created by your thoughts…. even the fast, unconscious ones.

If you have a negative thought like:

“I can’t believe I ate that. I’m such a failure.”

That creates a negative emotion — maybe guilt, maybe shame.
And that emotion often leads to another round of overeating, or giving up.

But when you intentionally shift your thoughts, you can create new emotions like pride, that lead to better actions.

How to Generate the Feeling of Pride (Even Now)

Feeling proud of your eating habits doesn’t mean being perfect.
It means recognizing your effort and acknowledging small wins. Especially when your brain wants to focus on everything you did “wrong.”

Here’s what I have all my coaching clients do:

At the beginning of every session, we identify what went well that week.
Not perfectly, just well. Even if it’s simply trying.

You can do this too.
Look back on the past few days and ask yourself:

  • Did I pause before eating out of stress?
  • Did I pack a lunch instead of ordering takeout?
  • Did I stop eating when I was satisfied — even just once?
  • Did I move my body, drink water, or speak to myself more kindly?

These are wins. These are reasons to feel proud.

The more your brain sees evidence of progress, the more motivation it builds. And the more likely you are to keep showing up.

Why Perfection Isn’t Required (And Never Was)

One of the biggest mindset shifts that helps my clients succeed is letting go of the belief that they have to be perfect to be proud.

Let’s say one day you…

  • Had a balanced lunch instead of grazing all afternoon
  • Ate a few chips and some grapes, instead of the whole bag
  • Took a walk when you didn’t feel like it
  • Said “no thank you” to food you didn’t actually want

These are all wins. Even if you got takeout for lunch a couple of days of the week, skipped a more intense gym workout, ate the cookies when you were feeling stressed.
We don’t have to do things perfectly – but we can still feel pride.

Because you’re still here. Still trying. Still choosing to care about your habits. Still creating small wins that add up…big time.
And that counts.

One Thought Shift That Changes Everything

“I’m doing better than I think I am.”

Try that on. Say it out loud. See how it feels in your body.

It’s amazing how quickly a single thought can create pride, even in a small way. And that emotion starts building momentum for your next choice.

Coaching Helps You Get There Faster

This is exactly what we do in coaching:

  • We identify wins and build the skill of thought redirection
  • We create simple, doable action steps that actually fit your life
  • We track progress without obsessing (way different than tracking calories)
  • We generate pride….so you want to keep going

And right now, I’m offering something I’ve never offered before…

100% Money-Back Coaching Guarantee (Ends July 23rd)

If you book a free Peace With Food consult by July 23rd, 2025, and move forward with 1:1 coaching, I’m offering a 100% money-back guarantee.

Yes, you read that right… if you show up, do the work, and don’t feel more in control, more at peace, or more proud of your eating habits (or you’re not seeing progress with sustainable weight loss), I’ll give you every dollar back.

This removes the fear, the hesitation, and the “what if it doesn’t work?” worry.
Because I believe in this work. And I believe in you.

Ready to Feel Proud of Yourself?

Feeling proud of your eating habits doesn’t have to wait until “someday.” You can start creating that feeling now… and I’d love to show you how.

And if you feel like now isn’t a good time, that’s just your brain putting off something that feels BIG. Big things can feel scary.

So ask yourself, “why might this be a good time?”

And then, “why might this be the BEST time?”

Because it really IS the best time. You deserve to feel better fast and you deserve to do that without worrying about the financial investment. Let’s do this… Book your free consult here
