How Your Mindset Affects Weight Loss Results
To create weight loss results, there are certain actions you can take and actions you can avoid to help, right?
For example, increasing your intake of protein and fiber, plus adding in more physical activity, water, and better quality sleep, are actions you can do.
Conversely, eating when you’re not really hungry, overeating refined sugar, not moving your body at all, are examples of things you can avoid, to assist with weight loss.
But what happens when you feel like you’re doing all the things, for months, and still haven’t created the weight loss results you want? Maybe you’ve even analyzed extensively what you could (and would be willing to) do differently and came up with nothing.
Well, then it’s time to look at not just what you’re doing, but what you’re thinking. Or your collection of thoughts, your mindset.
So, in this post, I’ll be sharing how your mindset affects weight loss results. You’ll understand just how important how you think is, when it comes to creating your weight loss results.
Where Your Mindset Comes From
Your mindset is just your collection of thoughts, more specifically the way you view something, other people, or yourself. Your mindset often is shaped by your experiences with the world around you and with other people.
Childhood can greatly impact your adult mindset, but also things that occur in your adult life, can impact your mindset now. (And just a side note, you’re never “too old” to change the way you think about someone, something, or yourself, even if it was from childhood.)
So if you’ve been thinking something like, “I probably won’t be able to keep the weight off,” you probably won’t be able to keep the weight off, because your thoughts always trickle down to your results.
How you think, determines how you feel. How you feel will then drive your behaviors (what you do or don’t do). Then, what you do or don’t do, determines your weight loss results.
The good news is, you can change your mindset, just by getting curious and questioning (or having a coach ask you questions, which is what coaches are great for). This is very insightful and will change how you look at yourself, other people, things, etc.
You can also change your mindset, or change your thoughts, by choosing an intentional thought to have. This new, intentional thought can help you feel better, do better, and create better results.

How Mindset Determines Your Feelings/Emotions
Your thoughts, your mindset, will always make you feel a certain way. Always. Sometimes it’s a subtle emotion. Sometimes it’s a strong one.
Think of thoughts and feelings/emotions just as communication between brain and body. You’ll feel a certain way in your body depending on your thoughts. Oftentimes, our thinking, our mindset comes automatically.
That’s called “default thinking” in the life coaching world. In the habit coaching world, it’s called “habitual thinking” or as I like to call it, “thought habits.”
So your mindset will always cause a feeling in your body, sometimes subtle, sometimes strong. You may feel like you don’t have control, and that’s completely normal.
That’s because your brain loves keeping the same thoughts, or same mindset, for as long as you let it. (The human brain is a creature of habit.) But you don’t have to let it continue with the same default or habitual thinking.
You can create new, intentional thoughts. A new way of thinking. A new mindset. So then, you FEEL differently. You have a new emotion in your body. One that helps you have better behaviors (actions, inactions, reactions) to create the weight loss results you really want.
And don’t worry…you’re not expected to be able to do this by yourself. That’s why coaching is available to you.

The Relationship Between Emotions and Behaviors
Why it’s so helpful to have the ability to create new and different emotions in your body, is because emotions drive your behaviors. And behaviors will always produce some sort of result (whether it’s a desired result or not, there will still be a result).
In general, the more positive emotions serve as better “fuel” for your behaviors. There are occasional exceptions and sometimes a more negative emotion can drive behaviors that lead to a desirable result.
But, if you’re finding that you’re not liking your weight loss results and you’ve been feeling negatively, it’s time to pick an emotion that will better serve you. One that will help you do the things you need to do to get the weight loss results you want.
You’ll be able to produce that emotion in your body, just by changing your mindset. And then, you’ll be more confident that your mindset isn’t sabotaging your weight loss.

Looking at YOUR Mindset
As I’ve pointed out earlier in this blog post, your behaviors then result in weight loss results you like or don’t like. And as you now understand, your behaviors are greatly impacted by your mindset and emotions.
So, if you’ve been feeling like you’re not happy with your weight loss results, let’s start looking at your mindset to make sure you’re optimizing all you can to create the weight loss results you truly desire.
Do you suspect there are some underlying thoughts that may be making you feel a lack of motivation? Or maybe disbelief that it’s even possible for you, discouragement, or doubt that you can have the weight loss results you want?
You can also ask yourself if your current weight loss results are making you feel even worse or less motivated? That can just add another layer to it.
Just getting this awareness is so powerful, because it’s now something new you can look at that may have been sabotaging your weight loss results. Which means, there’s a much greater ability to impact your weight loss results in the way you want to.
Like it’s actually possible. Possible to have weight loss results chosen by you, because your mind is more involved than before.

Weight Loss Results Created by You
Just knowing you have the ability to influence more than you thought you could, can make you feel more positively about creating the weight loss results you really want.
When you know you’ve created the weight loss results you desired by not only your actions, but also with your thoughts and feelings, you’re much more confident you can maintain the weight loss.
You’re now the person who loses weight and keeps it off, because you now think, feel and do like the person who loses weight and keeps it off. Rather than trying to just do, without the mindset, without the thinking, and the feeling part.
So, if your mindset is the piece you suspect you’re struggling with, I can help you with this with coaching. If you’re also struggling with the feelings and behaviors, I help with this too.
